Media Spend: In 2014, British Gas spent a total of £63.3m in total measured media, according to Nielsen. Q1 and Q4 of the traditional calendar year have historically been the company's highest spending periods, with TV, radio, press and direct mail leading the pack. 

Incumbent has handled media planning and buying since June 2010, winning in a pitch against ZenithOptimedia and OMD UK.

Digital Details reports that British Gas ran 161 standard, 35 high impact and 4 video ads last year. 17% of the display ads run were done so publisher-direct, leaving the majority to use programmatic. There was a total of 1,836 publishers, 2% of which were mobile, with top destinations such as ebay.co.uk, cookinglight.com, itv.com and realsimple.com

While last year's total display ad count was only half the amount of the previous year's, British Gas used the same amount of publishers. Already active this year on display, the company is promoting its Hive product, that allows consumers to control the heat in their home from mobile, tablet or laptop.
