Superdrug owner ramps up eCommerce & digital
The largest international health & beauty retailer in Asia and Europe, A.S. Watson Group, recently announced the launch of an in-house digital team called eLab.
Creating over 80 jobs, the eCommerce global support team will be responsible for developing eCommerce strategies, digital marketing, design and content expertise for the European marketin China, Hong Kong, Milan and London. The Superdrug owner expects the new team to generate 5% of the revenue from online sales within the next 18 months.
“In order to sustain our leadership we need to engage our customers 360 degrees and not just through the stores or traditional means,” said Malina Ngai, chief operating officer of ASW. “The technology teams in the eLabs will enhance the IT platforms and develop mobile technology, so the websites are fully mobile optimised and customers on the road have a good experience. Bringing our resources together to create synergy and efficiency ensures a cost-effective and consistent approach to content for all our business units.
“The new digital team will provide customised digital solutions to local needs and provide a road map to provide inspirational eCommerce solutions. In Europe, the UK is the most advanced country for mobile penetration.”
eLab will have a London-based facility and over 20 creative experts will be recruited beginning this Oct. to handle digital and content marketing for UK’s The Perfume Shop and Superdrug.
In May, AS Watson revealed it was investing £37m in its CRM and digital strategies over the next three years and generated £11.7bn in its last year.
Superdrug spent £3.76m in total measured media last year with 75% in TV. ZenithOptimedia handles the media planning and buying. The Perfume Shop spent £0.91m in measured media last year with 86% in TV.
