Account in Jeopardy- Score 83: Warburtons loses marketing director, hires Mondelez exec as commercial director
Subject: TV, Digital, Outdoor, Press, Social, Online.
Company: Warburtons, the largest bakery in the UK, produces a wide variety of baked goods, such as breads, muffins, and crumpets.
Opportunity: Ahead of four-year marketing director Mark Simester's n, the bakery has welcomed former Mondelez MD Phil Greenhalgh as commercial director.
While it is not certain if Greenhalgh is a direct replacement for Simester, he is a new decision maker at the now vulnerable account and is worth reaching out to.
Warburtons reported a 2.4% drop in operating profits for the year ending 26 September 2015. The loss was blamed on “pressure on gross profit margins in our core product areas”, while competition for market share is becoming more volatile.
On a positive note, the bakery has seen a surge in gluten-free sales at its Newburn Bakehouse, which has led to further investments for the product portfolio to meet growing demand and changing consumer trends. Chairman Jonathan Warbuton said these investment plans and the company's "family ownership structure" means that the bakery is "uniquely positioned to invest for the long term."
