Digital Opps: Doritos names new brand marketer ahead of big Q2 push
Brand: Doritos (Winmo)
Opportunity: After significant increases in digital marketing over the last 12 months, the crisps brand has found itself a new senior brand manager, Rob Pawson, former brand activation manager for PepsiCo’s UK grains portfolio. He will manage brand marketing, including digital activation and blue chip NPD partnering in local markets across Western Europe and South Africa for Doritos.
Sellers should go hard to secure revenue in Q2, the brand’s biggest spending period, but there’s last year’s big digital spike took place during Q3.
Media Spend: The brand spent £2m in 2014 tracked media, mostly in TV. Walkers increased ad spend by nearly 28% during the same year, spending £15m, with nearly a million going towards cinema.
Digital Breakdown: In the last 12 months, Doritos has run 12 standard ads with 76 publishers, one per cent of which have run site direct versus programmatic. This is in addition to six video ads. The prior 12 months saw the brand run seven ads on four publishers, 100% directly. Top ad destinations lately have included theladbible.com, thesportbible.com, lonleyplanet.com and life.com.tw.
