Digital, Agency Opps: Universal Music bolsters comms team ahead of Q4 campaign

Opportunity: Promoted UK Music comms director James Murtagh-Hopkins to senior director of communications, effective immediately.
He'll report to SVP Caryn Tomlinson and will work with Universal Music's management team, labels and operating companies to communicate its global business strategy. PR agencies would do well to reach out.

Experience: With over 15 years of communications, Murtagh-Hopkins developed skills in music, media comm, corporate comm, digital and PR. He's worked for major entertainment brands, including Sony Music Entertainment, Vector Management, Pulse Films, LCD Soundsystem, Pollen and UK Music.
Media Spend: Last year Universal spent over £8.1 million on media primarily across radio, TV and outdoor, with some devoted to press, cinema and digital. Peak spending occurs in Q3-Q4 and early this year saw similar spending.
Digital Breakdown: Per Pathmatics, since January, Universal Music Group spent £6.2m on video adverts that generated 103m impressions. Almost all were placed site direct on youtube.com. The company also spent £48k on desktop ads that gained 15m impressions.
Compared to year-to-date 2015, this is a drastic decrease from when £62.5m was spent on video ads that nabbed a whopping 1 billion impressions. Meanwhile, over £1.5m was spent on desktop presence and the company even spent £20k on mobile and tablet ads.
