Digital Opps: Heineken adds digital to Publicis duties and boosts video

Company: Heineken distributes beverages such as Heineken, Amstel Light, Buckler (nonalcoholic), Murphy's Irish Stout and Irish Amber.

Opportunity: Appointed Tribal DDB Worldwide. Publicis has been the creative agency for the beer brand since Sep 2015 and will now share digital duties.

Specifically, the agency will work on digital campaigns for Formula 1 sponsorship and its UEFA Champions League sponsorship. This coincides with fellow Heineken brand, Strongbow, that recently brought on account up for review this April and changes were sparked.

Media Spend: For H1 2016, the company spent £4.8m on a multi-media strategy, with the majority going to outdoor (£3m) and TV (£1.3m). The rest was spread across digital, cinema, radio and press. 

Digital Breakdown: Per Pathmatics, since January, Heineken has spent £1.6m on desktop ads to gain 348m impressions. Of those, 62% were placed site direct and top publishing sites include,, and During this time, £5.4m was spent on video ads that generated 335m impressions.

This is a different strategy from year-to-date 2015 when only £1.6m was spent on video ads to nab 81.6m impressions. Meanwhile, £1.4m was spent on desktop adverts that gained 74.7m impressions.
