Company: Hertz is one of the world's leading car rental companies, with offices across the globe.

Opportunity: Just after coming off the VAI, the former vulnerable account hired Mr Vincent Gillet to vice president of marketing international, responsible for the global market strategies for the Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty and Firefly brands.

Reporting to CMO Matt Jauchius, his remit will include regional marketing, eCommerce, digital, product development, partner marketing and leading brand teams. Since Mr Jauchius joined in October 2015, Hertz's marketing team has been in transition. With Mr Gillet's automotive and travel experience, and leadership now in place, global marketing will have a consistent message to pull in customers from around the world.

Online sellers, in particular, would be wise to go after pounds associated with a travel season push. Digital is usually perfect for delivering a global marketing message so don't hesitate. In fact, since Mr Jauchius's appointment, digital has shifted into place as Hertz's preferred advertising channel.

Digital and media agencies should reach out before the year is over and expect online campaigns to be released earlier, following the appointment of Chicago-based Barrie D'Rozario DiLorenzo to a global creative brief earlier this year. Hertz has lacked outside sources for a bit and this isn't the time to take your foot off the gas.

Additional Information

Experience: With over 25 years of expertise in international marketing, Mr Gillet has held executive and management roles for Infiniti Motor Company. His specialties include strategy and planning, luxury, international sales, integrated and brand management.

Media Spend: In 2015, Hertz spent £190,824k mostly on press with a small portion devoted to digital. This year, however, has seen a massive increase in digital, balancing out press spending.

Digital Breakdown: Since this January, according to Moat, 449 standard ads ran on 3,840 publishers. With only 25 per cent placed site direct, top publishing sites include united.com, hotwire.com and marriott.com. During this time, two high impact and eight video ads were run. This is different from year-to-date 2015 when only 168 ads were run on 5,438 publishers. Interestingly, 29 high impact ads were run this year.

Competition: Rivals in the car rental industry, which is currently under threat from the sharing industry, includes Nexus Vehicle Rental.
