Electrolux unveils rebrand, following low demand

Company: Electrolux is a global leader in home appliances, based on deep consumer insight and developed in close collaboration with professional users.

Rebrand: The company unveiled a new visual brand identity that features a new font, imagery and colors to represent “a new sense of Electrolux as a brand, what we and our products and services stand for and how we want to be perceived,” according to CMO MaryKay Kopf.

“Electrolux is on a journey to become a world-class consumer marketing company, with a clear focus on consumer driven innovation and strong brands,” said Kopf. “A key ingredient of this is to create an exciting and differentiating brand experience that is consistent across every consumer touch point. Our new visual identity will help us achieve that, in a digital and retail landscape that has changed dramatically over the past years.”

The new visual identity will be seen everywhere where consumers meet Electrolux – in-store, online, on packaging and through mobile devices. The roll-out will happen in phases as from January 14, 2015.

Design Lab 2015: Electrolux also announced the theme for its popular global design competition that annually receives more than 1,700 submissions from over 60 countries. In 2015 – its 13th year – the Electrolux Design Lab competition is looking for innovative ideas under the theme of Healthy Happy Kids. This year there is even more reason to join the competition, as the cash prizes have been doubled with the winner now receiving 10 000 Euros and a six-month paid intern-ship at Electrolux.

European Demand Slowed: In the third quarter of 2014, demand growth for core appliances in Europe slowed down and the overall market was unchanged year-over-year. Western Europe showed a slight recovery of 1%, while Eastern Europe declined by 4%. Demand increased in the UK, the Iberian  countries, Switzerland and the Benelux countries, while the Nordics and Italy declined.

Market demand for vacuum cleaners in Europe and North America is estimated to have increased year-over-year.  Electrolux showed a slight organic growth in the third quarter and the Group continued to gain market shares. Sales growth in Western Europe, which accounts for more than 60% of sales, was the main contributor to this development.

Planned GE Appliances Acquisition: In September, Electrolux announced its largest acquisition ever in the 95-year history of the company. The planned acquisition of GE Appliances is an important strategic move for Electrolux which will provide a significant presence in one of the largest appliances market. GE's premium, high-quality appliances complement our own brands and enhance our competitiveness as a global appliance maker. This is expect to close during 2015.

Marketing & Media Spend: A continued strong focus on premium products improved the product mix during the quarter, while marketing costs increased. Electrolux spent 54% of its 2012 media budget (£0.18m) in Press and 34% in Outdoor.
