TV, Online Opps: BASF hands global media account to Blue 449
Subject: TV, Digital, Video.
Company: BASF provides raw materials for companies across multiple industries.
Opportunity: The company just awarded Carat.
The remit encompasses running a major corporate branding campaign in the UK, France, U.S., Spain, China and India.
This comes as BASF started spending in TV again this year after taking a break in 2014. The chemicals giant will continue its “we create chemistry” campaign that launched in 2012 and was continued by M&C Saatchi when they won the account in 2013.
Digital Breakdown: Running pretty much the same game on digital this year, BASF has published more ads directly, as opposed to via programmatic, according to Moat UK.
Out of the 44 display, 33 high impact and three video ads this year, only 5% published via an ad exchange or server. This year, BASF has shown higher display activity in May on news and business publishers such as nationalgeographic.com and theweek.co.uk. Video ads reached higher daily activity points in September on arts & entertainment and news publishers including cracked.com, nytimes.com and theguardian.com.
Media Spend: Nielsen doesn’t paint a pretty picture as spending summaries have declined since 2013, pretty rapidly. The good news, though is they’ve already spend nearly as much as the entire year of 2014 in the first half of the year. They’ve already spent £83.6m in TV this year after having been absent from the pillar entirely last year.
