Digital, Traditional, Q3 Opps: Colgate uses Google BrandLab for 360 campaign, hinting at more to come

Therefore, sellers should go after these types of ad buys while the company is still in the middle of its two biggest spending periods (Q2 and Q3). CEO Ian Cook recently said the company’s “current plan would see [them] increasing advertising spend year-on-year, both absolutely and as a percentage to sales.” 

Firstly, the FMCG giant believes driving traditional and in-store will drive consumer engagement through to the retail level. More recently, he said that “digital advertising is more efficient than the traditional print, television, radio, billboard type of advertising.”  So there are two paths to sellers’ success here. Media Spend: Spent £24.4m in total measured media in 2014, mostly in TV, followed by Press. Q2 and Q3 of the traditional calendar year are priority spending periods. Areas of spend also include digital, magazine, sponsorship and OOH. 

Digital Breakdown: Last year, Colgate-Palmolive ran 81 standard display ads, 73% of which were run publisher-direct versus programmatic, according to Moat UK. In addition, it ran 333 high impact and 23 video ads, mostly advertising for Colgate toothpastes.

There was a total of 51 destinations, 4% of which were mobile, with top sites including,, and Video ads were more frequent on news publishers including and  While less standard ads were run in 2014, the company showed up on 900+ more destinations.

Product Launches: Plans to introduce the Colgate Total Deep Clean toothpaste, the Colgate 360° Expert White Toothbrush Plus Pen, the Palmolive Gourmet shower gels and Palmolive Skin Garden line into the region this year.

Audience: For its pet nutrition line, the company hopes to engage the increasing millennial vet population. The other segments go after mostly women, with some particular targetted of millennial mums and their school-aged children.
