PZ Cussons tidies up global brand accounts, consolidating personal care creatives

Company: PZ Cussons is an international consumer products group, developing leading brands in mature and emerging markets that have potential for future growth.

Opportunity: Following a review that began in January and was handled by Roth Observatory International, PZ Cussons has chosen Iris for its international creative account for global personal care brands Imperial Leather, Original Source and Carex.

TBWA\Manchester formerly worked with PZ Cussons for Imperial Leather’s creative account.

Iris has been tasked with developing the global positioning and advertising for PZ Cussons' global brands, but the appointment does not include the Indonesia-based Cussons Baby or some London-based beauty brands.

According to group category and brands director, Mr. Tim Perman, the partnership supports PZ Cussons’ growth agenda in Asia, Africa and Europe and to will help strengthen its key brands.

This follows the February appointment of Southpaw as its strategic and creative agency to lead a Sanctuary Spa campaign set to launch in June 2015, supported by PR and social media activity.

Havas Work Club will continue to work on digital activity for Original Source and Carex. MEC Manchester is the company’s agency for all media buying and planning, according to TLO.

Reach out for outdoor media, press and digital opportunities in personal care as the company seeks to strengthen its key brands. Consider approaching for opportunities with PZ Cussons’ London-based beauty brands as well, as the newly-appointed Iris will not be handling these creative accounts.

Further Insight: In the half year to 30th Nov., operating profit was 3.5% ahead of the prior period on revenue growth of 1.5%. Europe revenues were lower than the prior period principally as a result of the effect of the Polish Home Care disposal. Strong underlying profit performance in Europe offset the loss of profit as a result of the Polish disposal.

In the UK, performance in the Washing and Bathing division has been strong despite tough trading conditions and driven by an exciting innovation pipeline.

During the period the entire Imperial Leather portfolio was relaunched featuring new products and fragrances tiered as Classic, Signature and Indulgence ranges to cater for all price points and consumer needs.

Carex has continued to perform well driven in particular by the success of the four children's variants with ‘Bubble Gum' being the latest addition to the range.

New product launches have also taken place under the Original Source brand with the introduction of a range of body butters, lotions and scrubs following last year's launch of Skin Quench moisturising products.

Media Spend: The company spent £1.5m in total measured media in 2014, according to Nielsen. This was 24% less than total spend in 2013. Outdoor and Press were the highest investments.
