Future Opp: Nuffield Health's new CEO hires several c-suites in strategy shakeup
Subject: Outdoor, Press, Digital, TV, Non-Profit.
Company: Nuffield Health, a leading health and wellbeing business in the UK, currently consisting of 31 hospitals, 77 fitness and wellbeing centres, plus more than 200 on-site employee wellbeing contracts.
49% Opportunity: Nuffield, on the heels of replacing its CEO with Mr. Steve Gray (as of 01 Dec 2015), has just brought on a new chief digital & information officer. Mr. Alan Payne joined from a group digital director role at Bupa (there seem to be many exchanges between these two places, by the way), and will be responsible for all aspects of technology delivery, from strategy to dev/ops, with strong focus on business integration, value led delivery and future back customer experience.
In other news, Mr. KP Doyle left his post as deputy CEO in order “to pursue other interests” and Rebecca Granger left her group digital services director role. This latest management shakeup is part of Mr Gray’s new strategy and a planned merger of its current wellbeing and hospital divisions “at an executive board and operational level”.
Nuffield plans to announce a new chief commercial officer quite soon, so stay tuned as they’ll be your main marketing contact. We are scoring the organisation at 49%, so look out for future agency shifts in the next 12-18 months (January-July 2017).
Key to Know: Group CEO David Mobbs stood down at the end of 2015 after 14 years with Nuffield Health and within the same year he initiated the latest brand identity overhaul. Mr. Mobbs. has been working with Chairman Russell Hardy the last year to plan a smooth transition.
Nuffield Health appointed Handsome Brands in February to help with the rebrand, in an effort to better align its brand and messaging, while communicating to all audiences including consumers, corporate and health professionals. Be on the lookout for digital branding and some advertising across digital and outdoor.
Younger people today are interested and passionate about achieving an overall state of wellbeing; this includes participating in an active lifestyle and eating natural and organic foods. Read everything we know about this by clicking here.
Background: Mr. Mobbs oversaw many shifts and a full transformation of Nuffield Health over the last 14 years, watching the company go from a hospital operator to a leading UK integrated health and wellbeing business.
He led several acquisitions that helped with this major conversion, including Nuffield's first entry into the public health club market in 2007 with the purchase of Cannons Health & Fitness. This later turned into a big brand overhaul, turning Nuffield Hospitals, Proactive Health and Cannons into the Nuffield Health we all know today.
This was followed by the purchase of several other gyms such as nine Virgin Active clubs and the Greens gym chain.
He was also behind the partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) that will see a completed tech-advanced and modern state of the art hospital by 2017, and the ‘Head of Wellbeing' initiative, in partnership with 2020health, which looks into the sudden increase in chronic diseases and mental health issues among children.
Media Spend: Nuffield Hospitals spent 12% less in 2014 from the £1.34m spent in 2013, according to Nielsen. The company spent in TV and door drop for the first time in 2014, while they historically spend the most in Press, Internet and Outdoor.
Agency Roster: Appointed Handsome Brands to help with a brand identity overhaul in February 2015. Now was responsible for developing an online presence and was behind the non-profit's TV campaign Small Victory and We are Friday early in 2015.
March 2015, Nuffield Health appointed Hopscotch Consulting for a nationwide secondary schools programme to tackle teenage health issues.
