Agency, Q1 Planning Opps: Müller promotes head of yogurt marketing

Opportunity: On the heels of VCCP Blue to handle advertising for the Frijj brand, the company has promoted Muriel Breugelmans to head of marketing for yogurts. While this may not affect agency relationships at this very moment, note that VCCP Blue was appointed after not having had an existing retainer. So, this could be a new in for agencies.
Sellers- note that the main spending period takes place in Q3, meaning planning should commence by Q1 2017. MediaCom handles media planning and buying.
Media Spend: Spent £25m last year, down 59% from £60.1m in 2014. This includes measured media for TV, press, outdoor and cinema.
Executive Shifts: After Müller Wiseman Dairies and Dairy Crest's dairies operations merged as one fresh milk and ingredients business, Andrew McInnes became the boss. This followed the promotion of Mr. Michael Inpong in January to global CMO (still over UK and Ireland), P&G veteran Bergen Merey was said to take over Mr. McInnes' role as MD of the dairy operations (pre-merger).
Potentially New Target Audience: The yoghurt and sour milk product category is becoming more and more important to British consumers, despite the probiotic health claim that was banned in the EU. Important health concepts that are used for marketing purposes include protein and muscle growth. Change4Life, by Public Health England, recently began promoting ‘sugar swap' initiatives, encouraging parents to cut back on their children's sugar intake. This could be a big opportunity for yoghurt brands to begin marketing to children and parents. (research here)
Competition: The dairy industry as a whole have been experiencing a bit of turbulence recently and this isn't likely to change much next year. Competitors include Arla Foods, Group Danone, First Milk and Onken.
