UBS Global Asset Management taps CMO with digital, branding and CRM experience

Company: UBS Global Asset Management is a large-scale asset manager with businesses well-diversified across regions, capabilities and distribution channels. UBS as a group does wealth management, investment banking, asset management and retail banking.
Opportunity: UBS Global Asset Management has appointed a new chief marketing officer, Mr. Colin Clarke, effective this month. Mr Clarke joins from Visa Europe, where he was executive director, marketing, communications and partnership for six years until this past January.
With Mr. Clarke’s well-rounded experience in digital, branding and CRM development, we suspect this will be a major focus for UBS as soon as he becomes better adjusted to this role. Reach out for these types of opportunities specifically for the global asset management brand of UBS.
In terms of digital in the past, UBS has invested similarly to other financial institutions in the UK, buying digital display ads on websites like ft.com, cnbc.com, inc.com, ted.com, reuters.com and seekingalpha.com. Digital display has been moderate in the last year to date for UBS in the UK, with the company having run 75 standard display 55 high impact and one video ad(s) across 60 publishers (3% of which were mobile). 51% of these ads were purchased directly through the publisher. There is definitely room for growth here.
Experience: Mr. Clarke has extensive experience building brands and delivering historically high levels of Brand Equity and Advertising Impact scores. He worked to drive contactless payments, launched Vista’s digital wallet proposition in Europe and created “effective digital, CRM and social programmes” for Visa.
Other Decision Makers on the Move: The Asset Management division has been active this year. In April, UBS promoted Mr. Christian Hunt to global head of compliance & operational risk control for asset management. Also in April, Ms. Louise Parker was promoted to managing director, head of global asset management audit.
Also in June, Ms. Kathryn Naylor was promoted to operations manager, global recruitment for UBS across Wealth Management, Global Asset Management, Investment Banking and the Corporate Centre.
Media spend: Spend went down 84% YoY in 2014 to £309.6k from £1.9m in 2013 (which had been an 11% increase from 2012 spend). Press and Internet were the only areas of investment, according to Nielsen.
