H2 Opps: Vax ups digital, shifts to display strategy after bolstering marketing team

Opportunity: The brand has added hundreds of pounds to its digital advertising budget this year when compared to last year, while shifting from mainly mobile and video ads to display. This has led Vax to go from less than 55k impressions to nearly 50m on desktop, so sellers should encourage this spending move.
This comes after promoting former category marketing lead Aimee Corbett to senior digital marketing manager and media planner. She has spent the last several months developing digital, TV, mobile, social and PR campaigns to drive brand awareness. This month, Jonathan Rogers became head of EMEA category marketing and support staff has been added in between.
Sellers and agencies should go after imminent H2 pounds. Spending occurs all year, with the majority in TV. MediaCom handles media planning and buying.
Experience: Corbett joined Vax in January 2014 as the senior marcomms manager. Previously she worked with Ricemedia, Morrisons and Sainsburys.
Rogers joined Vax in mid-2013 as a senior product manager. In just under a year, he was promoted to head of UK category marketing. He previously worked for Thorntons as a brand and product strategy manager.
Media Spend: Spent £4.7m last year, according to Nielsen. This was down from 2014 total of £12m.
Digital Breakdown: Per Pathmatics, the brand has accrued 49m impressions on desktop so far this year after dumping £1.6m into the pillar. With 99% running site-direct, top destinations were amazon.co.uk (99% share), independent.co.uk and dailymail.co.uk. On mobile, the brand has bragging rights for 19m impressions after spending £325k.
During the same period last year, the brand spent barely anything (£150) on desktop ads, focusing more on mobile (£325k spent for 26m impressions). Video was a different story with £792 invested in 13m impressions.
Target Audience: Pet owners, home owners.
Agency Roster: The Brooklyn Brothers handled creative for Vax's largest ever TV sponsorship campaign in early 2015.
