Q2-Q3 Digital Opps: Alienware continues spending boost

Opportunity: The gaming technology CoolBrand 2016/17 winner has increased ad spend this year, so don't miss out on upcoming H1 revenue. Alienware spent more than 14x last year's digital budget so far, mostly in Q2 and Q3. 

Sellers who reach known gamers will have an advantage, but those that reach any Gen-Z and millennial male audience are likely to win some business. 

The PC gaming industry has benefited from the launch of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive this year, which have sparked growth within the high-end gaming market. With the UK gaming industry worth £4.2bn, PC gaming has risen to be worth £1.3bn, while console gaming continues to decline and remains in the multi-millions. (research here

Needless to say, Alienware will continue to increase spending here to stay above rivals in the industry. Mediacom handles media planning and buying, while creative is handled in-house

Media Spend: Dell spent £115k on the Alienware brand during the first half of 2016, covering digital and Internet. Dell as a whole spent £960k during this time. This was several times more than the £150k Dell spent during all of 2015, according to Nielsen. 

Digital Breakdown: Alienware has spent £716k on digital this year, according to Pathmatics, which is up from £49k recorded during the same period last year.

This year's spent went mostly towards desktop ads with 78% of spend share being direct even though 60% of impressions came from the DSPs MediaMath and TubeMogul (full breakdown in chart).

Top destinations were techradar.com, wikia.copm, softonic.com and lifehacker.com. 

Target Audience: PC gamers, skewed towards males but females are active as well.

Age ranges between 12 and 34, so Gen-Z and Millennials.
