Future Opp: Viacom taps client, trade marketer as CEO steps down (score 21)

Company: Viacom International Media Networks UK (VIMN), owner of Nickelodeon and Comedy Central. 

Opportunity: Appointed Ms Jessica Ryan as client services and trade marketing director as VIMN pushes its direct-to-consumer app. This comes as CEO Philippe Dauman plans to step down and current COO Tom Dooley will take over as interim CEO from September.

PHD, so creative agencies should have prime opportunity to win a spot on the media giant's roster looking forward.

This month the network placed three of its key pay TV channels (MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central) on its TVPlayer Plus SVOD service in the UK. Sellers in programmatic, digital and mobile will have the greatest edge, primarily those that target millennials.

Marketing moves could take some time but keep listening for changes in this future opp.

Leadership Changes: In the last six months, VIMN brought on Mr Peter Dale as the director of business development for UK commercial and Ms Helen Robinson as account and trade marketing director.

Experience: Ms Ryan has worked in marketing since 2003, when she joined Universal Music Group as a junior product manager home entertainment. She then moved on to work for major brands including Mattel, Inc. and Way to Blue. Specialties include brand management, integrated, events, social media, digital, strategy and buying. 

Media Spend: MTV Networks spent over £578k, in 2015, on TV, press, radio and outdoor. Last year, Nickelodeon spent over £2.9m on TV, press and outdoor. Surprisingly, according to Nielsen data, little was spent on digital.

Digital Breakdown: Since this January, Viacom has run 446 standard ads on 629 publishers, according to Moat. Top publishing sites include,, and, with only 39 per cent placed site direct. In addition to this, 34 high impact and 131 video ads were run. This is a slight increase from these same months in 2015 when 363 standard ads were run on 610 publishers.
