Opportunity: Hired former customer experience director Benjamin Braun as marketing and digital director this month. This comes in just one month after former Barclaycard SVP Jay Sadier joined as digital transformation manager and after former Audi marketer Sarah Cox moved to head VW's commercial vehicles marketing

VW PHD to its £2bn global media planning and buying business, which includes Audi. The take over begins in early 2017 and will lead to increased digital and programmatic activity. Creative and digital agencies should be approaching in Q1 to secure a review come Q2.

Year to date, Audi has spent £5.1m on digital, double what they spent during the same period last year (£2.5m), according to Pathmatics. Sellers should be looking for the same trend in 2017. Approach ahead of upcoming launches to secure timely revenue. Audi plans to launch its RS3 Saloon as early as Q1, followed by a Q2 launch of Audi A5 Cabriolet and RS4 Avant and a Q3 launch of A6 (BMW 5 and Mercedes E-Class rival).

Experience: Braun spent the last four years as associate director of customer experience and digital channels at Prior to that, he was with British Gasy as head of online services. 

Media Spend: Spent £21m last year with more than £5m each quarter, except just £4.5m in Q4. During the first half of 2016, Audi spent £9.8m with £5.6m in TV, £1m on digital and £0.6m on outdoor. Other areas were radio, press, Internet and cinema.

Target Audience: Upper class families and business executives. 

Digital Breakdown: Having doubled its investment on digital this year, impressions have jumped from 275m to 447m.

Top spending periods were in Q2 and Q3/Q4.

Most of monthly spend went towards desktop (57%) with 37% going to video.

As for purchase channels, 59% of spend share was direct, but only 21% of impressions were direct.

Ad networks and DSPs made up the majority of impressions (see chart). 

Videology, Xaxis and MEDIA iQ were the top indirect impressions sources.
