Q4-Q1 Opps: Bentley reviews creative and increases digital

Company: Volkswagen (VW), is the definitive British luxury car company. 

Opportunity: Readying for a creative competitive pitch in October, so sellers should be revving up their pitch ahead of an imminent campaign. So far this year Bentley has increased its digital ad presence, but could still benefit from more. 

VML London handles digital work for the luxury brand. 

VW expects the agency to take over from 2017 and plans for increased digital and programmatic activity. Sellers – look at VW's strategy to target higher income families of all life stages through emotional appeal. Gen X makes up the majority of the consumer group.

Incumbent: Keko London has handled creative since 2013.

Media Spend: VW spent £25.1m last year, according to Nielsen.  A large amount of this went in TV, radio and press. Cinema, outdoor and direct mail also saw several million of this. Q1 and Q4 were the highest spending periods. This was down from £42m in 2014 when Q3 was the biggest quarter. 

Digital Breakdown: Per Pathmatics, Bentley has secured 12.3m desktop impressions so far this year (spent £370k), running 99% sire-direct. Top ad destinations have included, and On mobile, where 2% of the ads ran using the SSP Rubicon Project, Bentley has accrued 1.8m impressions (spent £24k). 

In comparison, the brand spent just £21k on desktop last year (637k impressions, 99% site-direct) and under a thousand pounds on digital (64k impressions).
