Planning in play: Macmillan Cancer Support reviews CRM, digital for next year's push

Update (16 Sept): The nonprofit is looking for a CRM and digital agency ahead of its World's Biggest Coffee Morning push in 2017 in a review led by Creativebrief. The event, sponsored by Marks & Spencer and Nationwide, takes place on 30 September. Sellers should get in touch as planning for the event continues into Q4. There has been higher spend across OOH, digital and TV recently.

Opportunity: Soon after appointing Manifest London to handle PR for the 30 September event called World's Biggest Coffee Morning. Digital and media agencies should continue pitching.

Sellers - Q3 is by far the largest spending period so make sure you've attempted every way to profit from this before the end of the quarter. Otherwise, other quarters still see multi-million pound pushes. PHD Media handles media. 

Macmillan has increased ad spend over the last three years and recently began efforts to target a younger audience. Investments in outdoor, digital, direct mail, radio, TV and social media have also been up in the last year. Health and fitness, news and education sellers will have an advantage, based on Macmillan’s latest digital habits.

Media Spend: Spent £36.4m last year, according to Nielsen. This was mostly in TV and direct mail, with cinema, press and radio following as top pillars. Digital, cinema and outdoor have become more of a priority in the last two years. 

Digital Breakdown: So far this year, the non-profit has published 107 standard display ads with 826 publishers. Of those, 42% were published site-direct versus programmatically. Top destinations were, and Macmillan also ran 17 high impacts and three video ads. 

The prior 12 months saw Macmillan run 54 standard ads with 599 publishers. Of those, 66% were published site-direct and top destinations for display were, and The organisation also ran 10 high impacts and four video ads.
