Media Agency Opps, Digital Media: Amazon to begin planning for H2 soon

Opportunity: The former DF London and production company Big Block to launch the 'Olivia & her butler' campaign (above). This took place after re-hiring Christian Dy as head of marketing and site merchandising for the fashion arm after he spent over a year away as LEGO's senior global strategist. 

Since Dy's re-hire, Amazon has Initiative Media remains vulnerable. Having held the account since 2013, account leads have recently left the agency, including Sam Fairburn. For now, continue to reach out to Simon Smith. 

Q4 is by far Amazon's biggest spending period due to end-of-year shopping occasions such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday and gifting for festive holidays. However, Q2 last year saw a major jump in spending on digital, so sellers should be sure to benefit from this new spending period in 2017. Sellers should be all over planning for H2 by Q2.

Media Spend: Amazon spent £19m during the first half of 2016, mainly on TV and online. In 2015, Amazon spent £52m all year with £36m of it during the second half of the year. 

Digital Breakdown: Per Pathmatics, Amazon spent £27m on digital channels last year- securing 1.4 billion impressions.  This was way more than half what it spent in 2015 which was just £9.4m. The jump took off from Q2, but H2 remained Amazon's top spending period. 

Of last year's digital budget, 93% went to direct publishers but 35% of impressions share was due to ad networks. Top destinations were,, and
