Agency Opps: Virgin Active launches Iris campaign

Company: Virgin Active is a growing chain of gyms owned and operated by Virgin Group.
Opportunity: The Iris, just in time for weight loss season. The gym's highest spending occurs in Q1 and Q3 so sellers should still reach out for 2017 pounds. Appeal to active millennials and Gen Y's looking for gym support.
Last June, DV reported Virgin Active gained new UK Managing Director Robert Cook and predicted campaigns. Shortly after, he promoted Clare Gambardella from European marketing director to CMO for Europe. By then, Iris had already worked with them on a VoD, OOH, radio, digital display, social and in-gym campaign. Vizeum handled media planning and buying for this initial campaign but was not made AOR.
Media agencies could still have a shot at the business so now is not the time to slouch. Get up, get active and reach out to marketing contacts. Last year, digital agency Pathmatics shows they could use some digital influence, so don't rule anything out.
Media Spend: In H1 2016, Virgin Active spent £334k on radio and £121k on outdoor. This is already more than the company spent on marketing the entire year of 2015.
Digital Breakdown: According to Pathmatics, last year, Virgin Active spent £38k on video adverts that generated 2.5m impressions. Placement was split between site direct (61%) and programmatic through ad networks (39%). Top publishers include youtube.com, myfitnesspal.com and futhead.com.
This is a decrease compared to 2015 when £319k was spent on video ads to nab 19.8m impressions. Of those, the majority were placed programmatically and top publishers included youtube.com, aol.com and news.yahoo.com.
Competitors: Fitness studios and gyms making recent moves include The Gym Group bolstering its marketing team.
