Campaign Imminent: Man United is highest FC earner, surplus for marketing?


Company: Manchester United is one of northern England's internationally popular football teams.

Opportunity: Topped the Deloitte Money League after over £515m of record revenue for the 2015/16 season. They beat out Spanish rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid and cite matchday profits, broadcast rights and commercial partnerships for the growth.

DV published this revenue increase last September and this is just a friendly reminder for sellers to reach out immediately as the club plans for this upcoming season. Digital and TV are still common channels when appealing to younger viewers and families so be prepared for an omnichannel emphasis.

Media Spend: In H1 2016, Manchester United spent £124k on press, digital and direct mail. This is similar to 2015 spending, though during this time more went towards radio.

Digital Breakdown: Per Pathmatics, Manchester United Football Club spent £12k on desktop ads last year- securing 5.5 million impressions.  This is less than what it spent in 2015 which was £23k. This year's spending peaked in Q2 and 79 per cent were placed through ad networks. Top publishers included youtube.com, manchestereveningnews.co.uk, wp.pl and futhead.com.
