Digital, Outdoor Opps: Swansea City scores new coach, goes for digital gold


Company: Swansea City Football Club (SCFC), Welsh professional football club that plays in the Premier League.

Opportunity: Appointed Paul Clement as head coach to replace incumbent Bob Bradley who recently left after just 11 games in charge. Swansea sees this as an opportunity to restore pride back into the struggling football club. Fan engagement is key especially when a team starts on shaky ground so this new coach could trigger marketing shifts.

Just Rippleffect for a digital revamp including a new website to go in effect ahead of this 2017/2018 season. Sellers should suit up immediately as mid-year pounds are sure to flow. 

This new coach could trigger new marketing appointments or changes in overall strategy, but for this H1 Swansea will be focused on this digital roll out. Media and creative agencies would be wise to give a quick shout out to in-house leaders as planning for the end of the year has kicked off. Digital Breakdown: The Premier League spent £16k on desktop ads that nabbed 8.8m impressions. Of those, 89% were placed programmatically through ad networks and top publishers included youtube.com, answers.com, seetickets.com and gumtree.com.

This is a drastic decrease compared to 2015 when only 9.9m impressions were gained from spending £60k on video and desktop ads. 

Target Market: Increased digital presence is an attempt to pull in tech savvy kids and millennials, in addition to further engaging those football super fans.

Competitors: Digital fan engagement started late last year with Arsenal.
