Virgin Media launches campaign and focuses on broadband in response consumer demand

Company: Virgin Media, acquired by Liberty Global in 2013. Virgin Media is a company that provides fixed and mobile telephone, television and broadband internet services to businesses and consumers in the UK.
Opportunity: Virgin Media is set to launch a new multi-million pound TV campaign called “Are you ready to be moved?” that will run until the end of the year and feature notable female figures.
The campaign also features music by Alicia Keys recorded by X Factor contestant Fleur East and is set to begin during the England/Australia Rugby World Cup match. Part of the campaign is the unveiling of the new brand Vivid, a new standard of ultrafast broadband and new 200Mbps speed.
Ad agency BBH and media agency OMD will handle the campaign and run it through cinema, print, digital and social media marketing. According to a Virgin Media press release, the company is investing heavily in its ultrafast network to meet consumer demand. Data usage on the Virgin Media network is currently growing at a rate of 60% every year, and the company has also embarked on a £3bn programme to connect four million more homes and businesses to ultrafast broadband speeds.
Marketing strategies are likely going to be heavily influenced by newly-promoted Bambos Neophytou from his former role as head of customer experience strategy to head of marketing strategy, effective last month. Mr. Neophytou has extensive agency experience, having held roles at BBH, VCCP and Exposure, so no doubt he sees the value in bringing on agency in the name of collaborating about strategy.

Other Decision Maker Moves: Ms. Kerris Bright was named as the new CMO in January to lead the newly expanded marketing department. Effective from 19th January, Bright will report to COO Dana Strong. Bright previously worked with Unilever, AkzoNobel and British Airways.
In May, the company hired Mr James Lusher as head of corporate communications, effective in July. He joined from Telefónica, where he held a similar role. His appointment follows the departure of Gareth Mead as head of media relations, who joined Uber. Mr Mead's replacement, which has not yet been named, will be Mr Lusher's boss.
Digital Breakdown: Digital display has seen significant investment in the last year to date, as has mobile, with 199 standard display, 200 high impact and 10 video ads across 1,224 publishers (7% of which were mobile).
Top publishers were hobbies & interests, technology & computer, arts & entertainment, news and career sites. These included broadbandchoices.co.uk, monster.co.uk, virginmedia.com, rockpapershotgun.com and streetcheck.co.uk.
2014, however, was much less focused on mobile and video with little to no investment.
Partnerships: In December, DST announced it has signed a three-year deal with Virgin Media for the production of print and direct marketing material.
The strategic relationship will allow Virgin Media, one of the UK's leading providers of superfast broadband, digital entertainment, home phone and mobile services, to bring together its print and direct marketing production with greater control and opportunity for innovation.
Also in partnered with BlackArrow to introduce advanced digital capabilities that support the advertising needs of brands and broadcasters.
Media Spend: The company has upped its spend each quarter in 2015, compared to the same periods in 2014. Q1 was up by 22% to £29.5m, and Q2 was up by 30% to £29.7m. Highest send was in TV, Press and Direct Mail. Year on year, spend for just the first two quarters of 2015 has already increased on 2014 total spend for the categories of Radio, Outdoor and Cinema.
