Opportunity: The company said that first quarter UK hard goods market share down 80 basis points year-over-year to 17%; however, the UK had its highest-ever market share in March, led by the iron category. So far the financial year has already seen an additional investment in marketing and tour spending year-over-year as well and won the Champion for the European Tours.
Calloway Golf’s revenues were lower than expected in the quarter, while global market share performance stemmed from gains in Callaway Golf Company’s irons, putters and balls products with a small decline in the woods category, a highly competitive category this year.
“Our recent launches have been well received by both the trade and consumers,” said President and CEO Oliever Brewer during the Q1 2015 earnings call. “We are pleased with the receptions for our XR woods and irons and excited by the rational potentially for the Odyssey Works Putters and the Chrome Soft Golf Balls. We think we are positioned for very strong year in irons, putters, and golf balls.”
Media Spend: Has spent less in the last two years in TV, Radio, Press and Internet media spend with £0.33 million last year and £0.39m in 2013. Mote reports that Callaway Golf was run 33 standard display ads this year with 16 publishers (31% on mobile), 85% of which were published direct. Last year, key spending times were in the start of the year through July, with a little activity in October through December.
