Company: SCA Hygiene Products – a leading global hygiene and forest products company. The Group develops and produces sustainable personal care, tissue and forest products in the form of over 80 brands. Global sales equal roughly £7.8bn.

Opportunity: SCA is on the hunt for a digital shop to handle its digital activity in the UK, Germany and Sweden. A number of shops work with SCA on digital projects.

This follows a period of significant growth for the company. Net sales rose 14% in Q2 from 01 Jan-30 June. Organic sales growth, which excludes exchange rate effects, acquisitions and divestments, was 5%. Operating profit rose 9%, and profit before tax rose 11%.

During the quarter, SCA introduced ten innovations and product launches under brands such as Edet, Okay, Plenty, TENA, Tork and Zewa, at the same time improving efficiency along the entire value chain.

Recent Campaigns: The Tena Men brand launched a humorous campaign “keep control” in March, created by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, which featured a man who is in control of all aspects of his life, but then explains the need for Tena Men to help control urine leakage.

Last fall, the company launched a Bodyform £4.5m marketing campaign to promote the feminine hygiene brand. The campaign featured the strapline ‘Live Fearless' and appeared across TV, print, digital and in-store advertising.

This campaign launched after a 12% growth in YoY net sales for the second quarter and a 5% decrease in personal care operating profit, compared to 3% last year. The group increased its marketing activities in the second quarter.

Competitors: SCA's competitors in personal care are, for example, Kimberly-Clark, Procter & Gamble and Unicharm. Tissue competitors include Georgia-Pacific, Kimberly-Clark and Sofidel. Competition for forest products include Holmen, Smurfit Kappa, Stora Enso and UPM.

Media Spend: SCA Hygiene spent £12.9m in total measure media during 2014, which was a small drop from 2013. Primary spend was in Press and TV, with a very slight investment in Door Drop.  In years prior, Cinema and Outdoor were a much higher priority, whereas the company invested £0 in these categories during 2014.

Agency Relationships: In 2013, SCA consolidated its global creative business into Publicis handles CRM as well.
