Top 5 retail, FMCG opps ahead of festive season spending

Jingle Jingle! With Father Christmas set to fly in soon, below are the top 5 opportunities for sellers to pick up those extra pounds ahead of imminent festive spending. Companies include eCommerce and traditional retailers prepping for Black Friday sales, a whiskey maker looking to warm consumers up on cold nights and a little something sweet for the romantics.

Among the five below, millions have been spent on multi-channel media. Look for revenue opportunities in digital, TV, outdoor, social media, in-store and experiential. Sellers should contact within the next few months to be considered for the season.

Opportunity: Sellers- look for digital, social and traditional revenue opportunities. H2 is by far eBay's biggest spending period due to end-of-year shopping occasions such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday and gifting occasions for festive holidays.

MediaCom handles media planning and buying. Agencies- with recent business strategy and executive shifts, current media and creative agency relationships might be at risk. We encourage you to approach in-house.

Contact: Mr Brian Streich, International Marketing Director,

Sony PlayStation

Opportunity: Look for a rise in earned and paid media for PlayStation hardware and software. Up first, will be promoting PlayStation VR, set to launch in October. Gifting season in Q4 is Playstation’s top ad spending period, but expect higher Q3 spending this year associated with the VR launch.

TV and outdoor see the most spend, but digital increased this Q1 600-fold.  An edge should to sellers representing millennial male-focused technology, hobbies/interests, entertainment and news sites. MediaCom handles media planning and buying.

Contact: Ms Usama Al-Qassab, Vice President, Marketing for PlayStation,

Amathus Drinks

Opportunity: Appointed Fraser McGuire to sales and marketing director following multiple brand launches in the UK this year. Amathus is particularly focusing on the global whiskey trend here and campaigns are sure to roll out as Mr McGuire develops brand strategies.

Multi-channel sellers should contact within two months as whiskey is often a festive seasonal beverage. sports, travel and entertainment themes.

Contact: Mr Fraser McGuire, Sales and Marketing Director,

Signet Group

Opportunity: Signet is currently planning brand-new TV creative, supported by radio pushes, for the festive season, so sellers should be all over this opportunity.  Signet tapped Atomic London to its £5m retained creative account earlier this year ahead of a planned ATL campaign this Christmas.

Therefore, sellers should reach out ahead of the heavy gifting season in Q4 to secure branding and direct response pounds for Jared, Ernest Jones, Kay, H.Samuel, Zales and Leslie Davis brands. OMD UK handles media planning and buying. The company's marketing strategy incorporates in-store displays, social and experiential marketing, but they need to use more digital to appeal to male gifters on any gifting occasion, especially Christmas.

Contact: Ms Kim Priest, Marketing Controller, Signet,

Lindt & Sprungli

Opportunity: After recording double-digit growth in the UK last year, Lindt wants to become the world's largest network of premium chocolate shops within five years, so look for a strategy of targeting a more affluent population.

Festive gifting seasons are when higher marketing takes place, so spend will likely return to 2014 levels with a new target audience in mind. Travellers should also be top of mind. MediaCom UK handles media buying and planning.
