Decision Makers: In an obvious change in global structure, Vistaprint ended 2015 by promoting CMO Don Leblanc to president of Vistaprint Corporate Solutions. A few weeks later, Vistaprint promoted Oliver Harcourt to head of UK marketing while Sanjay Lobo was promoted to the VP of sales and marketing for Vistaprint Corporate Solutions in the US and EU.

Decision Makers: After a leadership restructure at the parent company and double-digit sales declines in the Banana Republic brand last year (read here), the Gap-owned brand put Hannah McGhee, acting marketing lead, in a permanent role as the brand’s head marketer.
Now rumours are spreading that Gap plans to hire Abercrombie’s Craig Brommers as its global CMO for both Gap and Banana Republic. Gap had previously said it wouldn’t be naming anyone into this role after its former CMO Seth Farbman became Spotify’s marketing boss. Although based in the U.S., Mr. Brommers is experienced in running global marketing campaigns while at Speedo and Abercrombie, known to push a localised mentality when creating a global marketing strategy.

She will be David Lloyd’s newest marketing campaign manager for the UK/IE, so she will likely be very involved in the campaigning to come at the company when they hire a retained AOR and ahead of the event in June (details in article).

Decision Makers: Deezer is on the verge of some serious changes, with its new funding and recent hire of Mr. Golan Shaked as chief marketing and commercial officer, based in London. Mr. Shaked joined from bwin.party digital entertainment where he was group director in London for four years. In his new role at Deezer, Mr. Shaked will focus on increasing Deezer’s revenue via pushing premium subscriptions, and working on ‘customer retention strategies’. He will also work to come up with new revenue streams to strengthen the Deezer brand globally. We suspect this could be through more ad sales, which the company has been investing in more within the last year (hosted 147 creative ads via 99 advertisers between Jan 2015-Jan 2016). A higher investment in mobile may be in the future too, as they haven’t been doing much in that area as of late.

Decision Makers: This month, Kerry Foods has a new marketing director, Ms. Jo Spencer, who is a well-versed FMCG marketer in the UK. She joined from Britvic where she was brand director for just under a year. Prior to that, she was head of marketing and marketing manager for eight years for various brands at Pernod Ricard. Ms. Spencer’s reputation precedes her, and her colleagues speak highly of her management and marketing skills; Kerry Foods is now a well-equipped team of marketers thanks to her addition, plus the recent hires of Mr. Bass (below), Strategic Marketing Director Sue McVie, Marketing Manager for meats Siobhan McNickle and Global Marketing Director for kid’s dairy Cathy Kidd.

Decision Maker: As we noted back in September, digital is indeed becoming an increased focus (see digital display trends over the last year below) for Getty Images. This is especially evident most recently with the hire of Mr. Daine Weston as global digital director from his former role as senior manager, digital marketing. Mr. Weston has worked with Getty since 2012 in digital and has been, in his words, a “pivotal part of structuring and driving forward Getty Images digital marketing efforts across display, re-marketing and affiliate channels”. We have a feel that Mr. Weston will continue to be influential in the company's digital transformation. He's proven himself to be a leader there, and clearly they respect his ideas. Decision Maker: Mr. Andrea Bianchi is leaving Technogym UK as their managing director, having been with the company for five years. Now, long-time sales executive Steve Barton is the replacement, having been the sales director for the last two years. Mr. Barton has been in the fitness industry for over 20 years, working in sales. Before Technogym, he worked as sales director for rival Precor until 2003. Now that he is leading the Technogym team, we may see him make some strategy changes because of the highly competitive nature the fitness equipment market is becoming.

Decision Maker: The company has this month hired Ms. Chiara Pensato as senior director, EMEA marketing. She will lead Alteryx marketing in EMEA, responsible for supporting their exponential growth in the region by generating demand and driving awareness. She is also working to build a team of marketers, with a new regional marketing manager for the UK & I and for Western Europe. According to the company's job listing “with a fresh round of £60m in the bank, their growth is set to continue with a huge focus on the EMEA market. Alteryx wants people that are eager to get on the UK rocket at take-off and be a key part of the journey.” With Ms. Pensato's track record in generating demand, awareness, and revenue via multiple channels – covering lead generation, events, analyst relations/public relations, product marketing, customer programmes, and sales enablement, you can bet these will be key focuses as she seeks to expand Alteryx in the UK and EMEA and to connect with more partners.

Decision Maker: Jack Wills has named a brand new head of digital, Mr. Bilal Adham, who joined this month from Monsoon Accessorize (a company which is also making lots of marketing changes). Perhaps Mr. Adham didn’t like all the upheaval and decided to go with a more stable company. Mr. Adham’s background is in digital and eCommerce at companies like Moneycorp and Frequency 3G Telecom, in addition to Monsoon. In his own words, he is the “go-to person for SEM, PPC, SEO, Affiliates, CRM, Programmatic Display, Real Time Bidding RTB, Conversion Rate Optimisation – A/B & MVT tests and Web Analytics (Google Analytics) within his current and previous roles.

Decision Makers: Character Group has made several new appointments to its leadership to lead the company in continued growth through 2016. Executive Chairman and Co-Founder Richard King will leave his executive role on the Board, but will remain a non-executive director and stay on as chairman. In addition, marketing strategies may change quite soon, as Mr. Jon Diver will remain joint managing director of the group, but will is giving up his long-running group marketing director title (he's held since the early 1990s). Mr. Jerry Healy, the current marketing director of Character Options will become group marketing director on 01 Feb. Mr. Healy joined as head of marketing in 2004 and in 2006 was promoted to marketing director.

Decision Maker: Restaurant partnerships and customer service. That is the goal for Hungryhouse’s new CEO, who was just promoted from marketing director. In 2014, Ms. Alice Mrongovius was handed the UK marketing director role to replace Graeme Horne. Now she’s on the up and way up, taking on the CEO position from Mr. Scott Fletcher, who is moving into a senior management role within parent company Delivery Hero. Hungryhouse is growing rapidly in the UK, according to Delivery Hero CEO Niklas Östberg. Now Ms. Mrongovius needs a partner in crime with as much marketing expertise as herself to take on her former role. No one has been appointed as of yet.

Decision Makers: We’ve got much to tell on the Monsoon Accessorize front. Remember how they were vulnerable? Well, they didn’t end up changing agencies and thus expired on our VAI (probably because they were so much in transition and hadn’t firmly hired a new CEO yet). However, we’ve just learned that interim CEO Paul Allen, who stepped in as CEO temporarily when Mr. John Browett departed last February, will take up the role permanently. Now Mr. Allen has a chance to implement his own vision of the company’s success. Part of his vision seems to include a different marketer or marketing solution apparently, as Ms. Eilidh MacAskill is set to depart from the retailer in March after eight years in the role. With a subsequent replacement to be hired upon her exit, we expect to have a brand new vulnerable score placed on this company in the coming months. Keep a close eye on Monsoon! They are bound to review agencies within the next year, so you need to be poised to act. We’ll keep you updated with further changes.

Decision Maker: As long as I don’t say “Thortful” out loud, I don’t feel quite so much like I’m naming a cartoon turtle. Awkward name, yes. But still growing? Also yes. Thus, we have a good story. The company has named several new executives over the last few months, the latest of which is digital guru, Mr. Richard Potts. Mr. Potts joins this month as head of paid digital marketing from 1000heads where he was digital performance manager for 2+ years and a senior account manager before that. At Thortful, he will work to grow the company’s paid channels via PPC, search ads, online display advertising, re-targeting, affiliates, social media advertising/promoted posts/sponsored tweets, etc. Digital agencies, reach out now to jump on this opportunity.

Decision Makers: Oh Asda. The Walmart of the UK is just not doing so hot right now. The Walmart of the U.S. isn’t either, so perhaps it’s a brand issue. Asda is now losing their senior director of marketing innovation, Mr. Dom Burch. Mr. Burch was the driving force behind the company’s YouTube channel, Mums Eye View, programmatic initiatives and their decision to make use of new media channels. The marketing team is being cut at the HQ, and it looks like Mr. Burch will not have any replacement. The company said this week that they are restructuring their commercial functions, spanning category planning, marketing and merchandising. Although, rather than simply cutting people, Asda hired a social media strategy manager in August last year, Ms. Hayley Bolton, so they're probably open to discussing their social strategy. There’s also lots of change occurring in the eCommerce division, so there is likely a higher emphasis on building eCommerce than before (smart!). This month, Mr. Chris Moriarty was promoted to eCommerce manager from replenishment and production manager. Last month Senior Director, Grocery eCommerce, Chris Conway departed for Morrisons.

Decision Makers: Warehouse Fashions’ relaunch is set for this year, and ahead of that initiative, they’ve hired a new customer director, Ms. Kate Walmsley, who was the Topshop digital director before that and also their head of eCommerce since 2008. Ms. Walmsley is taking on the newly-created role (sound familiar? Customer officers and directors are the new thing and are often replacing head marketers) later this year, reporting directly into CEO Liz Evans. She has been tasked with managing the overall Warehouse customer experience through digital, marketing, PR, brand creative, visual merchandising, customer services, innovation and social media. This is right up her alley, as she was planning director at AKQA London for over seven years. In November, Mr. Patrick Tcherno was appointed as global head of PR and comms. He joined newly-appointed Brand Consultant Alasdhair Willis and British designer Emma Cook. Mr. Willis developed a new brand department upon his hire, and he promoted Ms. Eve Dauncey to creative brand manager from her former role as brand communications manager. (This is actually quite impressive, as Ms. Dauncey stared with Warehouse in 2005 as an executive assistant.)
