Gucci brand transition into contemporary is hampering Kering profits
Opportunity: Digital, TV, Social Media, Branding, Global, Outdoor, Women.
Company: Kering, Gucci
Opportunity: The fashion group had a double-digit increase, propelled by positive contribution from both tourism and local clientele.
Gucci is experiencing its brand transition, that seems to be paying off, yet brand sales were down 8% on a comparable basis. Gucci’s action plan involves an objective to “rejuvenate the brand with more contemporary vision,” while seizing omnichannel opportunities. New communication will be spread out across all touchpoints including online, offline and in-stores, to support and convey a new brand message. It is not clear as to whether this new message has been
followed by his debut campaign in mid-April.
Gucci Struggle: Gucci has seen ongoing declines in sales due to Kering raising its prices too high for consumers. In the first nine months of the year, sales fell 3.5% to £2 billion. As of September 30, 2014, the store network of Kering's Luxury brands comprised 1,195 units, (including 26 net new additions during the quarter). Gucci sales in directly operated stores during the third quarter of 2014 were in line with performances recorded during the second quarter.
Decision Makers Breakdown: Gucci’s CEO Patrizio di Marco appointed as CEO of Brioni.
Sarah Crook was appointed as CEO of the brand Christopher Kane. In March, Kering group's Electric announced the appointment of Ian Foulke as global lifestyle & surf marketing manager.
Eyewear Strategic Initiative: On 2 September, 2014, Kering announced its decision to take back control of its Eyewear business value chain and to launch a strategic initiative aimed at building in-house eyewear expertise for its Luxury and Sport & Lifestyle brands.
The project involves investing in a dedicated entity specialized in luxury, high-end and sport Eyewear managed by a skilled team of experienced professionals under the direction of Roberto Vedovotto, CEO of Kering Eyewear. Kering's objective is to better support its brands in accelerating their development in the Eyewear category.
Media Spend: Gucci spent £3.1 million last year, down from 3.36m in 2013, according to Nielsen.
